About this tool
Everything this JSON diff tool checks
CompareFiles is a free tool to compare JSON online — paste two API responses, config files, or payloads and see every difference instantly. The comparison runs entirely in your browser, so nothing is ever uploaded or stored.
- Baseline and Candidate — Baseline (left) is the expected or reference response; Candidate (right) is the one you're checking against it. Differences are always reported as changes from Baseline to Candidate.
- Compares automatically — as soon as both panels hold valid JSON, a comparison runs with no extra step. Uncheck Compare responses to pause it while you edit.
- Field-by-field differences — value changes and type mismatches are called out separately, not lumped together.
- Missing-field detection — spot anything present on only one side, in either direction.
- Structure changes — catch shape drift, such as added, removed, or renamed keys, independent of the actual values.
- Ordered or unordered array comparison — match array items by position, or by content when order doesn't matter.
- Ignore paths — exclude noisy fields such as timestamps or request IDs with an exact path, a
*wildcard, or a recursive**, with JSON Pointer support. - Paste, drop, or fetch — load JSON by pasting it directly, dragging in a file, or importing from a URL or cURL command.
- Advanced View — reveals comparison settings and the full results below the panels: differences, missing fields, and structure findings, with filtering, review notes, and per-field ignore controls.
- Shareable reports — export findings as a Markdown report for a pull request or ticket.
